Federal Pell Grant
Pell Grants are need-based federal student aid to which other federal and nonfederal aid may be added. If a student meets all requirements for a Pell Grant then the federal government grants the student aid.
Eligibility Requirements
- The Pell Grant is need-based and related directly to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated by completing the FAFSA. Please note, 2023-24 is the last year of the EFC. Beginning with the 2024-25 FAFSA, this changes to the Student Aid Index (SAI).
- Undergraduate student who has not earned a first bachelor's or professional degree.
Application Process
- File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Upon filing the FAFSA, you will immediately be notified of Pell Grant eligibility through the Student Aid Report (SAR)
Award Information
Amounts can change yearly. For the 2023-2024 award year, the maximum will be $7,365. The amount awarded also depends on:
- Student’s financial need
- Status as full-time or part-time
- Attendance in the full academic year or less
Students may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time. Additionally, students may receive the Pell Grant for no more than 12 full-time semesters.
