- Leave prepared and confident to submit your FAFSA early.
- Register now for open October sessions.
- Complete the FAFSA by January 22 for maximum financial aid eligibility.

- You must submit a FAFSA to be considered for USFA-administered scholarships. (You can still be considered for non-need-based scholarships without it.)
- Applying to Virginia Tech? Don’t wait for your admissions offer! Use your applicant credentials to sign in to the Admissions applicant portal and apply there.
- Complete the General Scholarship Application by January 22 for maximum consideration in the Admissions applicant portal.
- Complete your College/Departmental Scholarship Application through the Admissions applicant portal (same place as the General Scholarship Application).
- Follow posted college/department deadlines and requirements within the applicant portal.
- Explore other Apply-To scholarships in the portal and submit by the deadlines listed.
- Start now for the 2026–2027 academic year. Many outside scholarships open early and have rolling deadlines.
- Search local opportunities (community service organizations, non-profits, places of worship, and employers).
- Use online resources listed here. Never give out sensitive information and only use reputable sites.
