Parents

Welcome!

Our staff is here to help and our web site is a good source of information that will guide you and your student through the financial aid process.  Should you have questions after reviewing the information online, please feel free to contact our office.

Parents are important partners for their students.  However, the student is primarily responsible for their Virginia Tech experience.  All email notifications regarding financial aid will be sent to the student.  Therefore, we recommend students educate themselves on the financial aid process to avoid missed deadlines, document requests, and potential financial aid opportunities.

FERPA

According to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), university staff cannot discuss financial aid matters with anyone other than the student, unless the student has provided authorization.  Without the FERPA Information Release, we cannot discuss student information with parents, guardians and/or authorized payers.

To comply with FERPA, parents must provide a FERPA pass code with each information request (phone, email, in-person).  The FERPA pass code is an 8-character pass code created by the student through HokieSPA [Hokie Spa Tab>FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act Disclosure.)]

Hokie SPA Guest Access

Parents can access student information through the Hokie SPA Guest Access.  The Guest Account will allow parents to see both the e-bill and the financial aid information, but it does not provide access to financial aid requirements (accepting loans, online questionnaires, etc.)

Please note: having HokieSPA Guest Account Access is not the same as having the FERPA information release.  Without the FERPA release, parents cannot discuss student information over the telephone or via email.
