Disbursement

Aid & Enrollment

Financial aid is awarded based upon full time enrollment and will be disbursed in the fall and spring semesters no earlier than 10 days prior to the start of classes for each semester.  If you are NOT going to be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours undergraduate / 9 hours graduate), please notify our office via email at finaid@vt.edu.  Please note, if you drop below full-time enrollment status after your aid has disbursed, your scholarships and/or financial aid may be reduced leaving you with a balance due to the Office of University Bursar.

Delayed Aid or Refunds

In some cases a hold may be placed on your financial aid account because our office may need additional information or documentation.  Such requirements must be satisfied before we can award and/or disburse your financial aid.  A notification will be sent out via the student's Virginia Tech email address and the requested documentation can be viewed on Hokie SPA or MyVT.

Financial aid refunds are set to start paying the Thursday before classes begin each semester.  Your refund may be delayed for the following reasons:

  • Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note requirements have not been completed
  • Full time students with actual registration at less than 12 credits undergraduate or 9 credits graduate/professional
  • Less-than-full time students who failed to email our office, finaid@vt.edu
  • Holds on your account.  Check holds on the Hokie SPA under Financial Aid Information.
  • Requested documents that have not been received and processed. Check Eligibility Requirements on the Hokie SPA under Financial Aid Information.
