Verification

Each year, the U.S. Department of Education selects approximately 30% of all Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)  for a review process called verification. For a FAFSA selected for verification, the student and the parent(s) or spouse, if applicable, provide documentation that supports the information reported on the FAFSA. The following are the main reasons students for selection:

  • Federal Student Aid selects the FAFSA at random.
  • The FAFSA  contains incomplete data.
  • The data on the FAFSA  appears to contain conflicting information.
  • The FAFSA contains estimated information.

Beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year, Virginia Tech will partner with KHEAA Verify to provide a student/family-friendly online verification experience.

The Virginia Tech Office of University Scholarships and Financial aid will notify the student via email about being selected for verification. This email will also include instructions and contact information for KHEAA Verify. Only students who receive an email related to verification are to work with KHEAA.

Students and parents can sign in to complete the process online at http://www.kheaaverify.com/website/kheaaVerify/getstarted.htm or by contacting the KHEAA Verify team at 855-272-8771, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:30 P.M. ET.
